Studies on Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase and Lactic Dehydrogenase Levels in Cerebrospinal Fluids of Pediatric Patients

Abstract
Variations in the levels of the glutamic oxalacetic transaminase (G.O.T.) and lactic dehydrogenase (L. D.H.) in cerebrospinal fluid (C. S. F.) were investigated in pediatric diseases involving central nervous system.
Normal values of the 10 cases for G.O.T. and 14 eases for L.D.H. were found to be almost similar to those reported by other authors.
In tuberculous meningitis, encephalitis and purulent meningitis, marked increase in C.S.F. G.O.T. and -L.D.H. activities was noted.
Of the 15 cases of tuberculous meningitis, 5 cases ,Of transitional stage and 8 cases of paralytic stage showed markedly increased levels of C.S.F. G.O.T. and L.D.H. whereas the other 2 cases of recovery stage showed decrease or compared with those of transitional and paralytic stages.
Of the 23 cases of encephalitis japonica, 11 cases of
c3matous stage showed markedly increased level of
G.O.T. and L.D.H. activities whereas the 12 cases of
non-comatous stage showed less marked activities. The L.D.H. activity in purulent meningitis showed
more prominent increase or response than in tubaculous meningits or encephalitis japonica.
The results of this statistical study seem significant in view of the fact that the p. value is undre 0.001.
